2012: Drawing

In 2012 I began to incorporate more colored pencil shapes into my drawings along with white ink applied with a brush. The result was that the white ink lines became a sort of skeleton for the other shapes. The powdery quality of the colored pencil reminded me of minerals. As these shapes layered on top of each other, the mineral quality became more prevalent in this series.

I began to think about what is hidden in the earth in relation to fossils, stones, minerals, and gems. Similarly, the human body and mind has hidden aspects. So this series of drawings is an exploration of that which is hidden both physically and psychologically. Looking inward, inner vision, and the experience of personal and collective reality is a big part of the discovery process for this series.
